Victor Hong, MD attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he received his bachelor’s degree in English Literature, then Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, where he received his MD. He completed residency in Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, and later returned to the University of Michigan, where he has been teaching for the past two years. 

Prior to his faculty appointment at the University of Michigan, Dr. Hong worked in consult/liaison, inpatient, and outpatient settings in community mental health in Northern California. There, he championed efforts to integrate primary care and mental health services, and continues to advise and work closely with primary care physicians at the University Health Services regarding psychopharmacology and management of undergraduate and graduate students in need of psychiatric care. 

As a clinician and educator, Dr. Hong strives to practice and teach a balanced approach to psychiatry, and his main areas of interest are emergency psychiatry, college mental health, and personality disorders, primarily borderline personality disorder.  

 

Currently, Dr. Hong's clinical responsibilities include providing patient care in Psychiatric Emergency Services at the University of Michigan Hospital and treating university students at the University Health Services.  Dr. Hong supervises and teaches psychiatric residents, on topics including, but not limited to, Personality Disorders, College Mental Health, and Emergency Psychiatry.
