Marc Agronin, MD is a geriatric psychiatrist and the author of the acclaimed book How We Age: A Doctor’s Journey into the Heart of Growing Old (2011). Since 1999 he has served as the Medical Director for Mental Health and Clinical Research at the Miami Jewish Health Systems, Florida’s largest long-term care provider. He is also an Affiliate Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.  Dr. Agronin is a graduate of Harvard University, summa cum laude and the Yale School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Adult Psychiatry at Harvard University’s McLean Hospital and then a geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the Minneapolis Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Dr. Agronin is the 2008 recipient of the “Clinician of the Year” award from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.  He is a two-time finalist for the Health Care Heroes Award by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and in 2013 he was the recipient of the Excellence in Research and Education Award by LeadingAge, a national organization representing 6,000 not-for-profit organizations from across the entire field of aging services.

Dr. Agronin is a national expert in Alzheimer’s disease and other geriatric mental health issues, and runs both a memory center and an active clinical research program with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to How We Age, he is the author of several other books and hundreds of articles, including Therapy in Older Clients: Key Strategies for Success (2010), Principles and Practice of Geriatric Psychiatry, 2nd Edition (2011; co-editor) and Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias: A Practical Guide, 3rd Edition (2014). Dr. Agronin has been published in the New York Times and Scientific American Mind, and writes regular blogs on aging and retirement issues for the Wall Street Journal as part of the Experts panel.
